Vietnam’s tourism industry is entering a new growth phase, recording remarkable achievements in international arrivals and tourism revenue, reaffirming the country’s position as one of Asia’s most dynamic travel destinations.
In the first quarter of 2025, Ho Chi Minh City welcomed more than 1.63 million international visitors, marking an increase of over 18% compared to the same period last year and reaching nearly 20% of the city’s annual target. Tourism activities generated more than VND 19,000 billion in revenue, up more than 20% year-on-year, driven by strong spending from both international and domestic travelers.
Across Vietnam, destinations have reported record-breaking visitor numbers and impressive growth rates. Hue, for instance, attracted nearly 1.5 million visitors in the same period, representing a surge of more than 60%, thanks to a vibrant calendar of cultural festivals and the successful hosting of the National Tourism Year opening ceremony.
Cultural Festivals and Experiences Fuel Tourism Boom
Experts highlight that Vietnam’s tourism success is closely linked to its diverse cultural events, heritage attractions, and authentic local experiences. From heritage cities and traditional festivals to modern urban experiences and coastal resorts, the country continues to offer a compelling mix of culture, nature, and lifestyle travel.
Major cities such as Ho Chi Minh City and Hue have leveraged large-scale festivals and cultural programs to stimulate travel demand, attract international visitors, and extend visitor stays. These initiatives have not only boosted visitor numbers but also strengthened Vietnam’s brand as a vibrant and culturally rich destination in Southeast Asia.
Vietnam Emerges as a Top Destination in Asia
The record-breaking performance reflects the strong recovery and expansion of Vietnam’s tourism industry, driven by improved connectivity, diversified tourism products, and growing interest from international markets. With rising demand for cultural, culinary, and experiential travel, Vietnam is increasingly positioned as a must-visit destination for global travelers.
Industry observers expect Vietnam’s tourism sector to continue its upward trajectory, supported by strategic destination marketing, high-quality tourism products, and expanding international partnerships.
