"It's a 30-minute downhill walk from Sa Pa 's former French hill station – cool off on the river en route and admire the giant bamboo water wheels used to pound rice. Pause for coffee overlooking a roaring waterfall, photograph locals in traditional clothing and haggle for souvenirs," wrote the Hong Kong newspaper, one of Asia's most popular newspapers.

"Cat Cat Village is located in the amazingly beautiful Muong Hoa Valley, in northern Vietnam, a region of rugged peaks, rivers and Hmong-populated rice terraces," she said.

One of Lao Cai Province's most famous attractions, Cat Cat showcases the distinctive customs and practices of the ethnic minority Hmong. Surrounded by rice terraces and emerald hills, it is considered to be great for sightseeing and trekking.

On the way to the village, tourists can take in the picturesque scenes around Sa Pa, including intriguing mountains, endless forests, dazzling terraced fields, peaceful valleys, and stunning waterfalls.

The name "Cat Cat" derives from the French, who during the early twentieth century created the resort and waterwheel at the village entrance.

Lao Cai, home of the popular Sa Pa resort town, last year welcomed 5 million tourists, up 18 percent year-on-year, including 806,000 foreigners.
