Yen Tu Festival is held in Yen Tu Hill, Town of Uong Bi, Province of Quang Ninh.
The festival takes place between the 10th day of the first lunar month and the end of the third lunar month.
Yen Tu is a pagoda complex containing 11 pagodas and several housed structures (including hundreds of towers and shrines). This position used to be the center of Dai Viet Buddhism ("Great Viet," Vietnam's former name in the 11th century under Ly Dynasty).This is also where the Truc Lam Buddhist sect originated. Dong Pagoda is at the highest place (nearly 1,100 meters above sea level).
After the Lunar New Year Festival, thousands of visitors come to Yen Tu every year to pray for luck and safety in the New Year to themselves and their families.They assume they would earn more good things in that year if they can climb to the top of the Yen Tu Mountain (Dong Pagoda). There is an airy and holy atmosphere of pagoda, lake, and forest along the path to the top.
