The fences in front of the Municipal Theater in downtown Ho Chi Minh City have been demolished as the construction of a subway No. 1 subway terminal is nearly complete.

The metro terminal, named after the Municipal Theatre, measures 190 meters long, 26 meters wide, and is planned to have four underground floors, according to the city's management authority for Urban Railways.

There is a lobby, ticket booths, automated ticket gates and an information center on the first floor.

Passengers must use the second and fourth floors to get on and off the trains.

The third floor is reserved for storerooms of supplies, a disaster control center, a resting space, electrical rooms, air conditioning and ventilation systems, electromechanical rooms and a sewage pumping system.

Meanwhile, the surface field, situated in front of the Municipal Theatre, and between Dong Khoi and Nguyen Hue Avenues, is planned to be a green space for flower gardens and trees.

The Municipal Theater Terminal's first floor has been completed, some 96 days ahead of the original schedule given the novel outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The Urban Railways Management Authority will continue to work with related units to accelerate the development of other sections of the subway project, including tracks, electromechanical systems, signals and information systems.

Approximately 85 percent of the project is scheduled to be finished this year, and by late 2021, the subway line will be on track.

The trains underwent the final phase of the Japanese contractor's technical assessment for the metro road.

Owing to the continuing pandemic, it is still uncertain when the trains will be imported into Vietnam.

Metro route No. 1, which runs from District 1 Ben Thanh to District 9 Suoi Tien, is 19.7 km long, including 2.6 km of underground railways and 17.1 km of elevated railways.

The network consists of three underground stations, and 11 above ground stations.

Construction began in August 2012, and approximately 72 per cent of the construction was completed.
