Lotus ponds are common sight here amid lush green rice fields. The flowers are still in bloom at this time, and are ready to harvest. During the season, people going through the town get a bonus treat – the lotus scent borne by the brise.

A set called "Lotus fragrance in the countryside" was compiled by photographer and nature lover Nguyen Minh Phuoc

Visitors, especially women, love to take pictures of themselves in full bloom amid lotus ponds.

The lotus that grows in muddy waters is a sign of innocence and determination in difficult conditions to aspire and prosper.

"A lotus petals are like a woman's rosy cheeks," Phuoc said. He neglected to mention the woman's name in his photograph.

Lotuses are normally planted in central Vietnam in January, and harvested between April and June. A well-grown lotus pond in the photo is located in Da Nang City, 30 km from Dien Ban Town.

The lotuses here have a lighter pink hue while those in Dien Ban are colored hot pink.

Bloomed lotuses and buds are widely valued as offerings in pagodas and in many commercial establishments for decoration at homes and.

Apart from bringing charm to its surroundings, almost every aspect of the lotus has great utilitarian value – leaves, petals, stems and seeds used for many purposes, such as food and medicine. The leaves are used as part of a delicious salad to wrap food, seeds for making tea and dessert, petals for lending their fragrance to green tea and stems.
